4 Tips for high school students
Entering high school can be challenging for some teens. Imagine going to a new place filled with hundreds of unfamiliar faces and rushing to classes on several floors in under five minutes. The experience can be hectic and tiring. Even though school has been in session for the past few weeks, here are some tips that can be helpful for your high school student.
Did you know that if your teen is struggling with a class or feeling separated from their friends, you can have their classes changed to help them succeed and see a friendly face? Make sure to ask what the cutoff date is for dropping or adding classes. This could help your teen set up for success.
Create a safe space for your teen to open up about their school day—somewhere they can share both the good and the bad. Be supportive and nonjudgmental.
Model good coping skills. Demonstrate the qualities you want to see in your teen, such as honesty, optimism, and self-regulation. This will help your teen build resilience when dealing with emotional challenges.
Teach your teen to advocate for themselves. This skill prepares them for life after high school and gives them the confidence to take steps to get their needs and wants met.
